Urban gymnastics such as jumping off walls are just some of the daredevil stunts that will now taught at Bebington High Sports College by the ‘Airborn Academy’, home to founder and twice world champion, redbull athlete, Ryan Doyle.
Ryans philosphy of life is ‘don’t live in fear of making mistakes, just go for it’, so with Airborn Acadamy’s fully qualified and accredited level 4 coaches, that’s what Bebington High’s students are aiming to do.
This is a innovative programme for schools, which encourages students to ‘overcome any obstacle’, in the form of parkour & free running. They will be given a structured base where it is safe to practice the art form and learn the techniques which can be adapted to any situation.
Over the years, ‘Parkour’ has grown in popularity partly thanks to Youtube, where many free runners post their stunts. It is an extreme sport in which participants jump, leap, roll and bound between obstacles using only their body weight and momentum to carry them. It is a physical task were real skill is involved as in most sports. Freerunning is a variation of parkour, the term was coined during the filming of ‘Jump London’, where it incorporates parkour as a baseline but focuses more on self expression, innovation and creativity as opposed to the speed and efficiency in parkour.
A Year 8 student commented “I cant wait to try something new and exciting, its different that any other sport that I’ve ever done”
As well as student coaching Bebington High Sports College will also be opening their doors to community sessions each Friday between 6pm – 8pm at a cost of £6. For further information please contact the school.
